News and Updates
Welcomed new secretary treasurer Cassie Smith; discussed VP and secretary treasurer duties
Journal Caribbeana is live; members discussed how we might promote it
Update on literary history from Brycchan: late 2017 publication date
Discussed possibility of a panel linked to the history at ASECS 2018
Symposia
Further plans for the Early Caribbean Society were discussed, including the location for the next symposium.
Several options were proposed.
2019 ISECS in Edinburgh (15-19 July)
Return to Caribbean for standalone conference: possible options:
1) Trinidad-Tobago (UWI collaboration)
2) Vera Cruz, MEsico (OSU connection)
3) Boston/ JCBL (journal connection)
4) Cuba (Alabama connection)
Possibility of ECS organizing the off-year SEA conference in 2020
Proposal is due next year
Discussed how to build membership outside the US
Organize ECS panels at BSECS (Brycchan will set up ECS affiliation with BSECS)

The meeting began at 12:30 pm.
The meeting began with remarks from outgoing president Tom Krise, who discussed the origins of the Society and introduced Richard Frohock, Acting President.
Nicole Aljoe and Elizabeth Maddock Dillon updated members about the Early Caribbean Digital Archive, and the journal Caribbeana, which will go live in January.
Members discussed locations for future meetings. Several locations were discussed and participants were encouraged to suggest options. No decision was made about the location and date for future meetings, which will be selected after future discussion.
Members discussed the list-serv and the concern that members were not receiving emails. Ritch Frohock informed the group that all problems have been resolved.

The meeting began at 1pm.
Members discussed the creation of an online peer-reviewed journal, to be housed at Northwestern University and edited by Nicole Aljoe and others. Aljoe had already consulted on technical support for the journal, and plans are preceding apace.
A second topic of discussion was the plan for an edited collection of essays on early Caribbeana. The editors for the journal are soliciting abstracts for essays and are considering presses.
Members discussed the possibility of proposing panels for conferences sponsored by the Caribbean Studies Association or the Association of Caribbean Historians. This would allow us to connect with other scholars in our area of interest beyond our historical and disciplinary parameters.
Further plans for the Early Caribbean Society were discussed, including the location for the next symposium. Tom Krise proposed a third symposium in London, attached to the SEA conference to be held there in July 2014.

The meeting began at 1pm.
The group discussed a draft ofthe Constitution and Bylaws for the Early Caribbean
Society, which had been presented by Tom Krise. After several friendly amendments
to the documents, they were approved by a unanimous Vote.
Officers were then nominated and elected. Tom Krise was nominated for President;
Karen Salt was nominated for Vice-President; and Richard Frohock was nominated
for Secretary-Treasurer. All three officers were appointed by a unanimous vote.
The members directed the Secretary-Treasurer to open a bank account to facilitate
the management of Society funds.
Further plans for the Early Caribbean Society were discussed, including the location
for the next symposium. A majority of the members present expressed a desire to
attach the next symposium to the American Studies Association meeting planned for
November 2012 in San Iuan, Puerto Rico.
